Die Wairakei Geothermal Power Station, nördlich von Taupo am Waikato River, hat eine Kapazität von 192 Megawatt. Die Turbinen erzeugen dank des Dampfes eine enorme Energie, die andernfalls ungenutzt in die Atmosphäre entweichen würde.
